TV: Beautiful People

I am absolutely charmed by the UK tv series, Beautiful People, which tells the story of Simon Doonan growing up gay in a smalltown in England in 1997. Simon and his best friend Kyle, who ONLY answers to Kylie, go through life in a rainbow-coloured haze, dreaming of the day when they will move to London and "live amongst all the beautiful people."



It makes me wish I had a gay friend growing up. Think of all the fun that could have been had, like doing facials and sleepovers the way Simon and Kylie do. Check out my absolute favourite scene from the show. It's the morning of the school musical tryouts and Simon wants to win the part of Joseph (as in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat) but just as he steps out onto his street with his coat of many colours, he's greeted by his competition in the form of some random girl neighbour and of course, best friend Kylie, who's downright fabulous with his rendition of "Tomorrow" from Annie.
