Writing From Whitehorse

So it's Day 3 here in Whitehorse. Here's a photo of my hotel room. It's pretty much a dive. No elevator, the matching curtains and bedspread are old and tacky, and it's just not the glamourous work trip I had envisioned. Then again, I work for government so I should've known better.

By the way, this photo was taken at 10pm and yes it's that bright outside. In fact, it's that bright outside all day and all night, except for around 2am when it finally gets a bit twilight-ish, but only for an hour or two before that darned sun comes right back up again!

So far, what I've done up here in the Yukon has included drinking, drinking, and more drinking. The Yukon Red Amber Ale is not as good as the Yukon Gold. And one night, I found myself several miles down the Alaska Highway, off in some remote location, drinking Bud and shooting off a shotgun at some empty beer cans.

Yeer-haw. My coworkers are okay but I think I need to get some alone time!! Traveling with 3 straight guys isn't as fun or hot as I might have imagined. I guess if I was actually attracted to any of them, it would be different, but I'm not, so hearing them talk about sports or women's boobs and getting between their legs, all while farting and belching just isn't doing much for me.

An entire week left to go... Wish me luck!

  4. yes total junkie room!

23 hours of sunshine is a bit unsettling. the hotel room is hot and i have to open the window and leave the curtains open a bit, thus making it very difficult to go to sleep when the sun is shining on your face!

rick - in time, my friend, in time!

whippetgood - yes we made our way out to the hot springs the other day when there was a power outage, thinking we could go find dinner further out away from the city. no such luck. power was out all over the place!
