Yes. This movie was all kinds of amazing. Performances, storyline, writing, everything. It's not as brutal as I thought it would be, though it is totally and completely heartbreaking. The performances from Mariah Carey, the lead actress Gabi, and a dramatic turn for comedienne Mo'nique were absolutely amazing. Mariah Carey's transformation is astounding, though she wasn't in the film as much as I would've liked. And yes, she can actually ACT unlike some other singer-turned hags that we know of! (yes Madonna, I'm talking to YOU!)
Mo'nique's portrayal as the monstrous mother was so utterly compelling and devastating and horrific to watch.
Brilliance.
