"I love him even if he doesn't love me back."

Called in sick today. Did not want to deal with the new coworker. Plus, it's so frickin' cold in Vancouver lately that I had to pull out an extra blanket when I go to sleep! It's nearly June! Yet it feels like winter! Bah!!! So yeah, I'm fighting off a cold and today I just felt like I should stay home and rest or else it would evolve into something bigger.

So, what else is there to do when you're home sick? Watch crappy movies, of course. Well, When In Rome isn't exactly crappy. It's not amazing either, but I was very entertained by it and in the realm of rom coms, this one gets good marks for:

* shooting in Rome
* shooting in New York
* Josh Duhamel

The writing could've been better, but the story is original - girl grabs some coins from a fountain where people wish for love, and the people who owned those coins fall in love with her. Enter a mix of crazies from Danny Devito to Will Arnett to the Napoleon Dynamite guy (who can't seem to shake off the typecasting, it looks like).

Kristen Bell as the female lead was cute, but too lightweight to carry this movie, I think. She's in almost every scene and she just didn't have the calibre or star quality. Not that this was a role of a lifetime, but she just looked a bit misplaced, but she did okay. And why where there ZERO scenes of Josh Duhamel with his shirt off? Giant FAIL on that part. I really should have watched that tv show Las Vegas more.

"I love him even if he doesn't love me back," says the lead character. I can relate to that, and I enjoy the optimism and hope that she has by the end of the movie. It's nice to know I'm not the only romantic left out there.

If you're in a RomCom state of mind, then this one will do.

Rent It
