Books: Sh*t My Dad Says
I haven't been reading as much as I want to lately. I have loads of books on my shelf ready to be taken down and opened up, but I just couldn't be bothered. However, a friend lent me Justin Halpern's Sh*t My Dad Says this week and it was a quick and easy read, which will hopefully get me back into the mood.
Halpern moved back to his parents' abode in his late 20s and decided to post sayings up online of things that his father would say to him. His friends encouraged him to start up a Twitter account with this and he was soon attracting tons of followers and peaked the interest of publishers.
Here's an example of one of the things his dad says:
"Son, no one gives a shit about all the things your cell phone does. You didn't invent it, you just bought it. Anybody can do that."
He's blunt and coarse and funny, but sitting down and reading a whole book of this can be a bit much. The tone doesn't change, so I found myself putting it down for a rest and coming back to it when I needed a brief giggle.
Light reading fare for sure. Turns out, the book is being developed into a CBS comedy starring William Shatner! Yes, that makes me totally jealous.
