It is with much sadness that I report to you the death of an acquaintance of mine, artist Tobias Wong. I have sung his praises on my blogs before and interviewed him for a magazine article. He was also the ex-boyfriend of a friend of mine, so I knew him on a personal level and always admired his charm, wit, smarts, originality, mischieviousness, spunk, passion for life, and all around cool person. He was definitely good people. I knew him as Donald, but to the art world, especially in New York, he was Tobias Wong, or more affectionately, Tobi Wong.
I'll always remember him with that sparkle in his eye, that hint of play, coupled with a warm smile - whether it was at his home in Vancouver crouched up in the corner of the kitchen counter top, across the table at a restaurant, or at an art exhibit opening in SoHo in New York when I went to visit one year.
A bright light has gone out far too soon. He was 35.
My deepest sympathies to his friends and family.
