Mark Romanek directed this movie, based on a book by a Japanese-British author. I know Mark Romanek from his work with music videos, specifically Madonna's Rain, Michael and Janet Jackson's Scream, and Janet Jackson's Got Til It's Gone. All beautiful videos.
His eye for beauty carries into this film about a boarding school for kids, that turns out to be not your average boarding school. There's a sci-fi element to it, and I don't want to give away the plot entirely, as it slowly unfolds for the viewer. Let's just say, this boarding school is grooming these kids for a specific and sad purpose.
Overall though, it was a bit underwhelming and slow, even though it had the acting talents of Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley.
Skip It, and read the book instead (not that I've read it, but I imagine it would be a smidge better than this)
