Japanese anime is not for everyone, and it's certainly not for kids - at least not this kind. I know there are different genres of anime, such as ones with gay characters, ones with robots who have sex with humans, ones that are about history or nature, but they all seem a bit depressing or a complete mindfuck.
Grave of the Fireflies was recommended to me by Momma's boyfriend, D. It's the tragic story of a young Japanese boy and his little sister trying to survive on their own during wartime in Japan.
Of course, given this past weekend's events in Japan, I can only imagine that stories like these have become a reality now that the country has experienced one of the most devastating tragedies since WW2. I've been watching the footage of the tsunami on the news and it's absolutely heartbreaking.
