First off: Tumblr.

What is Tumblr? I've never really known. But my friend Joe introduced it to me and gave me a bit of a tutorial on it. So I signed up for an account. From what I gather, it's kind of like a twitter meets blog meets Flickr program. Do a lot of people use it? Should I move my blog on to that instead? Or is it more photo-based and less word-based? I just don't get it... Anyone out there use Tumblr and want to tell me more?
Second: Banksy.

Now I'd heard about Banksy before, but didn't really understand who he was until I found myself at the World's Biggest Bookstore in Toronto. I wandered around wasting an afternoon and picked up a coffee table book on this guerrilla graffiti artist, whom nobody knows the identity of. I know there was a documentary on him called Exit Through The Gift Shop and it was nominated for an Oscar. I definitely want to watch that film after flipping through the book and seeing some of Banksy's work.
A third thing I learned a bit more about was Cloud Computing.

I'd seen the ads on TV proclaiming "To the cloud!" but never really quite understood it. I mean, sure, I know about things like Dropbox where you can use an online server to store your files, etc. But What else? A friend showed me with his Mobile Me account through Apple, how he was able to access a movie he had stored on his "cloud" and watch it on his iPhone or iPad from wherever he was!
Ah...the wonders of technology!! I finally understood it!!
There were other things I learned and discovered during my trip, both about myself and the world at large. Sometimes all it takes is a break from the daily grind to open up your mind to new things and new experiences.
I started a tumblr blog awhile back . . . http://dustincushman.com/ I did so because I'm a bad blogger and don't write many posts . . . however a lot of iphone apps synch to Tumblr and I started using it for that purpose. It's mainly just a photo blog really. I like using it though.
ReplyDeletethanks Dustin! i'll have to check out yours! I don't know if I want to start one, cause then would I ditch this one? then i'd have to ask the two people reading my blog to move over to my new address and blah blah blah....
ReplyDeleteThere are plug-ins to bring tumblr into other blogs. I finally found one for Wordpress, but as mine is mostly a photoblog I decided to keep them separate.
