TV: Once Upon a Time

My second favourite new show of the season had to be ABC's fairy tale drama, Once Upon a Time! Utilizing writers from LOST, it was bound to be a hit! And I know somebody who works on the production side of the show, as it's filmed here in Vancouver. He's not able to give me any spoilers though, otherwise he could lose his job. So, I'll just have to watch to find out what happens like everyone else!

The premise is a little complex, which is no surprise since LOST was complex from start to finish. However, it's definitely family fare that everyone can enjoy. It takes place in a town called Storybrook, where fairy tale characters live in the modern day world after a curse has taken them out from their fairy tale land and none of them remember who they are. It's up to one stranger to break this curse. It features many of your favourite fairy tale characters such as Snow White, the Evil Queen, Cinderella, Rumplestiltskin, and many more...

OH and let's not forget about the men of Once Upon a Time! First we have the Sheriff:

And of course, Prince Charming, HELLO!! :

Fresh from her sister-wife duties on Big Love, Ginnifer Goodwin plays Snow White, and even though I like her, you may just not be that into her.

Once Upon a Time airs every Sunday night on ABC, so check it out if you are looking for a fantasy escape to help wind down your weekend!

  2. The first episode sets the stage for the series, so you may not find it that great but it is necessary. It gets better as it goes along! It's a fun show.

  3. Seriously, this brilliant fantasy drama just continues to gain momentum with each episode as you are drawn into a world where classic fairy tale characters are brought to life after having been exiled to our world via a wicked queen's evil spell and all memories of their previous lives have been erased. Snow White and Prince Charming are the most obvious main characters but there are also dwarves, fairies, trolls and other great characters like Red Riding Hood, Gepetto & Pinocchio, The Mad Hatter and many more along with some nasty villains like Rumplestiltskin and of course the Evil Queen herself. And in spite of the fantasy setting, it's also immediately apparent from the cast's performance that this is a program that takes itself seriously resulting in a surprising believable story. Also, Once Upon plays a little like a detective show in that various clues are revealed in each episode all pointing to their previous lives, and although this is a serial, many of the episodes are just great stand-alone, fairy-tale based stories.
